Sylvan Park Floral

I wanted to share some fun photos from a client who is using one of my floral designs on their adorable clothing.  The company is Bebenuvo and they create fuzzy-wuzzy soft, beautiful baby clothes and accessories, as well as baby carriers, pillows, and blankets.  All photos are from their site:

Snuggle weather. Sorta.

It’s dropped below 90˚ so naturally I’m dragging out sweaters and tea, like a great freeze is upon us. The very first signs of fall make me both giddy and melancholy, and there’s an urgent need to create! all the things!  Today I went through a bunch of fabric that hasn’t seen the light of day in at least 2 years, that I’d bought at least 3 years before that, with plans to make a sweet baby blanket for a friend.  If you’re a (girl)friend of mine already, it is likely that you’re pregnant, because honestly there have never been this many preggos in my life thus far.  Which is pretty fun for me because it so happens that I just designed a line of onesies with JuDanzy!  Here are a few of the onesies and ohhh there are legwarmers too, which is basically the BEST on squishy baby fat.

i’m still here!

I would say I can’t believe how long it’s been since I updated, buuuut I kinda believe it.  So.  I wanted to share some images and update this dusty ol site, as I’m adding new work in my (private) portfolio so why not!

For over a year, I’ve been working with a wonderful company in South Korea who partners my work with clients of theirs.  One of their clients is a fabric company who has some of my patterns, which are now frolicking around on dresses and shorts, much to my total amazement.  There are always lots of projects under wraps in this business, so I am thrilled to have lovely photos to share from one of them.  All images are from the site http://kkabinea.com:

I love seeing these sweet florals with sweet faces!  I hope to be better about sharing these fun projects.  It really is a treat to see the completed life from sketch to product.

New things

This summer has been one we won’t forget…We were asked (by new developers. ahem.) to leave our home at the beginning of summer and then found ourselves across town in a sweet little house three months later.  The time in between was spent in North Carolina, traveling and visiting friends and family, then back to my parents’ hollow here near Nashville.  The three of us were so completely ready to find our own place again, and we are extreeeeemely grateful to be here.  Lucky for us we happen to have lots of really gracious people who let us be in their homes and yards and porches.  They even welcomed us through the next time we came by!

So then.  At the beginning of this year, I was contacted by TeNeues for some of my work on their journals and stationery.  Just last month I received a few boxes of the products, which are now available.  They are such fun!  I am really impressed with the quality, the soy ink use, and the fact that my name is on the side of the box.  Ha! The boxed notecards are available here, and the journals can be found here.

evite — new work

Lately, I have been working on some really fun projects.  Among them are some new designs I created for evite.  I have just finished up the second round of designs for them, and had such a great time working on them–this time it was mostly Halloween and Thanksgiving themed work, which I don’t get to do much of.  It was a welcome change.  Below are a few cards that are already available (yes, Christmas already).  More to come!

Surtex 2014

I’m now back home, finished with Surtex for this year–and  I wanted to share a few thoughts on the show this year compared to last year (which was my first).  I still consider myself a newbie, but it was so nice to have a little experience and know what to expect a bit more.

Compared to last year, this year seemed busier overall.  We saw more Big Companies (you know, the ones you’ve heard of before and maybe even shopped in?) this time.  Sunday was certainly the slowest day, and I was approached by several start-ups that day (is this a newish trend?).  Monday was much more steady, and (for me at least) most of the “big deal” people came by Tuesday.  Of course everyone’s experience varies, and I would love to hear what other Surtexers thought.

Our neighboring booths were full of big fun people, who we chatted with some, but honestly didn’t get to chat with much.  Everyone stayed pretty busy (thankfully) and Jill and I like to focus on what’s going on in our own booth-world, which doesn’t make too much time for visiting with neighbors.  We were able to ask our superstar neighbor Cathy Heck some questions while we were tearing down the booth Tuesday.  I love how nerdy the trade show talk gets!  WHEREVER DID YOU GET THAT BANNER LIGHT?  PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THOSE PORTFOLIOS!

I am incredibly excited about some potential collaborations, but of course only time will tell what will all pan out.  There were many exciting conversations and most of them came from greeting card companies, which would be a mostly new avenue for me.  So, of course, I’m very anxious to get the ball rolling!

Here are a few photos from the show.  I owe a lifetime’s supply of Peanut Butter Panic ice cream to my assistant Jill (who I have officially hired for help now!) and I owe Laura Wallenstein and her husband Dan the biggest fattest dinner for housing my Booth Junk and helping me cart it around NYC for set up.

the final countdown

Wellllll it’s almost that time-I’ll be packing up and heading up to NYC again for several days to set up my Surtex booth and hang out with the patterns and illustrations I’ve been producing for the past year (such as the Tiger Lily collection, partially seen below).  If you happen to be at the show, please drop by and chat with me and my sidekick/superhero Jill!  TigerLilyFeathers

the first

Our household has been dealing with a lot of issues lately, mostly of the health variety. And this month our little guy will be having tubes in and tonsils out, which we are happy about. I am so relieved to picture him breathing and hearing again! I just loved turning the calendar over this morning to the 1st day of March. It feels very promising, and I am ready.

Gettin ready

It’s weird because I feel like I just left New York, and now I’m spending so much time thinking about May and what all to finish before then…It’s squashing up time and it’s messing with my head!  I’m rambling about Surtex, of course.  My new love affair.  I’m exhausted just thinking about those three days of excitement, hope, frets, and lists.  This year (as I ever so slowly inch my way up the aisle) I’ll be in Booth 645.  Not a surprise corner booth at the end of the very long road of newbies (ahem), but a booth a little bit closer to the action.

So I’m making new booth sketches, creating new work, researching and calculating….I’m loving it!

And so I don’t have two posts in a row with zero images, I’ll post a little work in my new portfolio.  That’s always fun!
